Paper bands with heat-seal adhesive, which only bonds when heat is applied. They wrap a bunch of celery, asparagus or spring onions and leave it tied and labelled in one go, with brand, weight and barcode.

A bunch of celery, asparagus or spring onions needs two things: something to hold it together and something to say whose it is, how much it weighs and what its barcode is. A heat-seal band does both at once. It is a strip of paper with an adhesive that only bonds when heat is applied: it wraps around the bunch, seals and leaves it tied and labelled in a single step. ## How it works

Heat-seal adhesive is not tacky to the touch, so the reel can be handled without the bands sticking to each other or to your fingers. As the band passes through the bunching machine, the heat activates the adhesive and closes the band around the produce. No rubber bands or separate label are needed: the band holds and labels at the same time.

- **The brand** and colours of the grower or cooperative.
- **The weight** and the rest of the product details.
- **The barcode** , so it can be scanned at the supermarket checkout.

It is a way for loose produce to reach the shelf with the same brand image as a packaged product.
